Seba is a Kenyan visual artist, whose practice moves between painting, sculpture and printmaking. She works between studios in Nairobi and the Taita Hills, where her rural studio sits beside a waterfall. Her practice is guided by an intuitive dialogue with material, form and meaning. Beginning on watercolour paper and canvas, her work gradually dissolved into three dimensions: into gypsum, fibreglass, resin, wood, plaster of paris, glass and cowrie shell, each medium offering its own language and temperament.

At the centre of everything she makes is water. Not as decoration, but as the governing intelligence of her practice: subject, metaphor and method at once. Water carves without force, holds memory, purifies without instruction, and finds its way through every obstacle it meets. Rooted in Taita relationships to water, wildlife and land, Sio approaches water as both an ecological system and a source of spiritual and cultural meaning. Her signature salt-dissolution technique, in which sea salt, ink and granulating watercolour are left to move and crystallise, lets the material shape the image, producing dissolving figures and recurring horses.

Organic forms run throughout her work: the branching intelligence of slime moulds, the ripple of moving water, the cyclical strength of the feminine spirit. Each is a quiet argument for how the world is actually organised, in networks, rhythms and returns. Through biomimicry, she looks to nature’s own systems as models for reimagining human life, an inquiry that extends beyond the studio. Sio is co-founder of Omiflo Limited www.omiflo.com, a Nairobi-based biotechnology company developing nature-based, biomimicry-driven water and wastewater treatment, making her scientific curiosity and artistic instinct inseparable.

Her work has been exhibited in Nairobi, Johannesburg, London, Milan, Warsaw, Lamu and Diani. In 2023 she held her debut solo exhibition at One Off Gallery, Nairobi, followed in 2024 by her solo exhibition Ebb and Flow, which explored water, femininity and resilience. That same year she took part in Your Grief Belongs to You and It Can Be So, So Pretty at Galleria Objets, London, a five-artist international exhibition on grief across cultures. She has also exhibited in Rewind Remix Replay at the Goethe-Institut with Alliance Française, Nairobi.

In 2025 she was one of eight Nairobi artists commissioned for The Atlas of Uncertainty, an interdisciplinary project by the Oxford/Wits Mobility Governance Lab and Wits University’s African Centre for Migration & Society. Her nine-panel work, Biomimicry: Using Biological Systems and Models of Nature to Reimagine Kawangware, draws on slime mould networks and water-cleansing plants to read an informal settlement as self-organising rather than chaotic. The travelling exhibition opened at the Origins Centre, Wits University, Johannesburg, in April 2026.

In 2026, Sio presented Sovereign Waters, a solo exhibition of twenty-eight paintings and sculptural works at Textured Art Gallery, Watamu. She has undertaken an artist residency at the Orkedi Foundation near Nanyuki, and is a member of the Kuona and Brushtu artist collectives in Nairobi.

She is currently undertaking an MA in Art & Ecology at Goldsmiths, University of London, where her research explores water, sound and clay earth, and the fading of butterfly wings as a lens on fragility and ecological change.
